The first time Keralis ever cuddled was a struggle.

It took a while to learn to be... him. To be the sweet Keralis everyone knows. To unlearn years of mistrust and hiding needs... Needs such as physical contact.

He remembers it like it was yesterday. Xisuma was much, much bigger than him. Taller, and simply buff (he wants to throw up when he remembers himself from that time. So thin, so weak.), and so gentle towards Keralis. They were in bed together. Keralis remembers how Xisuma stretched out an arm and he let Keralis lay his head on it, he remembers an arm wrapped around his middle, he remembers a murmured goodnight and he remembers the way he woke up the next morning, and how he realized that Xisuma truly loves him and will help him heal.

He remembers how Xisuma cooked for him. Food was always a privilege and not a need, so regular meals were... new. Unknown. Slightly scary even, when Keralis thought he'd have to earn them the next time.

One of the hardest things for Keralis to deal with was how hard to read he found Xisuma. Nobody can be that patient and loving all the time, right? He never seems to get angry, or raise his voice, or slam doors. When something upsets him he'll take time to decompress, but he never directs it at Keralis. It's too good to be true, and Keralis is sure of it.

It takes a long time to actually admit that, though. To admit anything about how Keralis feels, how he's struggling. Xisuma is a little confused - this kind of thing has never been his forte - but he listens. He tries to understand. And he asks what he can do to help.

Keralis bursts into tears.

Now, Xisuma makes sure to vocalise how he's feeling to Keralis when he remembers. If he's upset, he tells Keralis but still never raises his voice or gets loud. He explains the mindfulness he does to deal with negative emotions, offers to teach Keralis some techniques. He gets Keralis involved in meal planning, sitting together with their arms and knees pressed against each other.

Slowly, Keralis is able to open up. Both in and outside of the relationship.

Keralis hates having his hypnosis abilities.

Sure, he could use them for evil. He could use them for hurting people. Everyone assumes that, but has anyone asked him what he really wants? No? Of course not.

He wants a partner, and he wants to help them relax, and he wants to cuddle with them and then tuck them in and let them rest. And then he wants to make them breakfast, and kiss them gently. He just wants to be soft damn it.

Maybe that's why he's so excited to join Hermitcraft, where nobody seems to view him as a monster for those powers.

For most of the hermits, the conversation starts and ends at 'would you use them on me without permission? No? Okay, we're cool.' If they were worried about Keralis's powers then there's plenty of other hermits they should worry about too. They know that stereotypes aren't what they're hyped up to be.

For a few hermits, the conservation doesn't end there. Keralis has established a few casual relationships amongst the hermits, and he's living that dream life. Waking up alongside them, cuddling, kissing...

Then, one day, Bdubs asks slightly hysterically for help. He's been struggling to sleep, awoken my night terrors - if he managed to fall asleep to begin with. He just needs something, anything to help him. Keralis is slightly nervous to use his abilities on a hermit, but it feels worth it as Bdubs falls asleep on his lap. He doesn't wake until the sun rises the next day, grateful for the rest.

After that, Keralis gets one-off requests occasionally. Somebody stressed about a project, somebody who needs a break, someone who needs help sleeping. He's careful not to do it on the same person too often, but it feels good, seeing his abilities used in a helpful way. It's exactly what he wanted. To see people he loves cared for and happy.
